Three Great Easy Hiking Trails in Yuma
1. Palm Canyon Trail
You’ll love this 1.3 mile lightly trafficked out-and-back trail located south of Quartzsite, and close to Yuma, Arizona. You’ll enjoy beautiful wildflowers, native palm trees, bird-watching, and the occasional buck! The inner canyon is incredibly beautiful. You’re permitted to drive to the entrance of the canyon, which is ideal if you do not want to hike but still enjoy the canyon views.
2. Telegraph Pass
This is a popular trail that starts out easy, for the first half, and then steeply inclines for the second. You’ll recognize the start of the second half easily as it’s paved, whereas the first part of the trail is natural. Total distance is 6.3 miles, with an elevation gain of 1,404 feet. One notable tip: if you don’t want a challenging hike, simply turn around at the halfway point-marked by the start of the paved trail. You’ll enjoy gazing at numerous Ocotillo (spiny desert plant), which grow up to 20 feet with red flowers at the tips, and there are also eye-catching Saguaro Cacti to relish. Located at N Frontage Road, off Foothills Blvd 18 exit, in Yuma.
3. East Wetlands Interpretive Trail
Is a 2.6 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located on Levee Road in Yuma. It’s ideal for beginners. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Enjoy the level terrain and the lush green foliage along the bank of the Colorado River. Don’t forget to bring insect repellant (mosquitoes).
